New SELA. Album: "I Will Never Be Ten Again"
Damn that album title is a real ass realization. I always look forward to new releases by SELA., who seems to be becoming as prolific as those Green Ova fooliyones. IWNBTA marks a transition to more concrete loop-based compositions by SELA., who was starting to meander into fairly abstract soundscapes on recent tapes. Being a little more straightforward is never a bad thing. Quite a few of these could pass for straight-up hip-hop instrumentals, which has always been the root of SELA.'s sound at least to my ears. I especially enjoyed "belated" and "sonja (ii)" for this reason. I would encourage adventurous/stoned rappers to try their hand at maiming some of these tracks if ya'll are trying to to get your Robb Bank$ on. High-time SELA. started collab'ing with some (worthy) emcees.

A FEW WORDS ON PEPPER BOY'S ONE LIFE TO LIVE EP
Now I don't mean to brag to ya'll, but there are some perks to this blog game. Namely, hearing advance copies of yet unreleased music. I just finished listening to a rare sneak preview of the new EP from Pepper Boy of Little Rock, AR and it is definitely an album to look out for. The record is concise and to the point but also expands Pepp's sonic palette into new and unexpected territory. One Life To Live is the sound of an artist who is not afraid to evolve, try new things, and appeal to different audiences while staying true to himself. I don't want to give too much away now, but just be aware that One Life To Live is slated for release on March 17th, 2012. It's more down south hustler music that is quintessentially Pepper Boy, with added flavors that show he has his ear to the streets and his mind focused on moving forward.

Alec Trebex - "Brothers" [DCFC Cover]
Another release from the enigmatic producer Alec Trebex. So here's the thing about this song; you go into it expecting one thing and then realize much more credit is due. It's an electronic re-imagining of a fruity Death Cab For Cutie song, right? I for one am not familiar with Death Cab's body of work but off top it's very vogue right now for electronic producers to fuck with unexpected sample sources. The cool thing about this shit right here however is that it's not a remix...it's a cover. This dude straight up re-created all the piano and drum sounds of the original, sang the words again in his own voice etc. etc. very much in the age-old tradition of rock bands covering their favorite songs. Except electronic. If you ask me, this is the wave of the future and it low-key bunks forreal. It's a free download so you already know.

Shady Blaze - "Intro Quick Time" [VIDEO]
Shady just dropped a visual for the breathtaking (literally) introduction track from his artful The Grind, Hustle & Talent mixtape. The video finds Shady in the middle of the street in his hood kicking it raw, no need for anything more. Once you're done being floored by the fluidity of his flow, listen to the words this man is speaking; he's saying some real shit.
Download The Grind, Hustle & Talent for the reasonable asking price of $5 here.
